Company
NestAI builds the adaptive operating system for modern battlefield operations. Most AI systems are built once, validated at deployment, and expected to stay sufficient after that. That assumption holds until conditions change, and in defence, they always do. Our team develops adaptive intelligence for unmanned and command systems: AI that continuously learns from operational data and adapts to changing conditions, deployed in environments where there is no internet, no GPS, and failure is not an option. NestOS, our open, modular, and interoperable platform, enables this at scale and keeps capability evolution under sovereign European control.
Founded in 2025 by Peter Sarlin, whose previous company Silo AI became Europe's largest AI acquisition, NestAI has grown to over 200 engineers and scientists and partners with leading European defence forces and industry. We're ambitious about what we're building and honest with each other. The bar is high, and so are the standards we hold ourselves to. But this is also a place built on humility, trust, and looking after each other. If that sounds like the kind of work you want to do, keep reading.
Role Overview
Our systems are deployed in power-constrained, unattended environments where real sleep and wake behavior is what lets hardware survive long missions without constant attention. As our Embedded SW Engineer, you'll own the low-level software that makes our hardware power- and thermal-aware: sleep logic, board-level power APIs, and thermal management that our systems need to operate reliably in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop low-level embedded software for power and thermal management on our HW system.
- Design and implement sleep logic and wake conditions to enable true low-power states for power-constrained, unattended deployments.
- Build and maintain board-level power management APIs used by higher-level software layers.
- Implement thermal management strategies to keep hardware within safe operating limits across a range of field conditions.
- Work closely with our hardware and mechanical design teams to align software behavior with board and enclosure design.
- Debug and validate power and thermal behavior at the board level, using appropriate lab and field test methods.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Embedded Software Engineer with a focus on power and/or thermal management.
- Strong low-level development skills (C/C++) with experience working close to the hardware.
- Hands-on experience with sleep logic, power states, and board-level power management APIs.
- Understanding of thermal management principles and how they interact with hardware design.
- Comfortable working closely with hardware and mechanical engineering teams on an evolving platform.
- Experience with embedded Linux or similar resource-constrained, real-time environments is a plus.
- Experience in defense, robotics, or other rugged/edge-deployed hardware environments is a plus.
If your background doesn't match every requirement but the work resonates with you, we'd encourage you to apply.
